Princess Anne's no-nonsense reputation was laid bare in a documentary when an overheard comment about a committee member was caught on a live microphone. The remark, made during a press conference ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, was recalled by Lord Sebastian Coe in the film Anne: The Princess Royal at 70.
Mic left on during committee meeting
Lord Coe, who was involved in securing the Games for London, described the moment as one of his favourite memories. He said the Princess Royal's contribution to the Olympic committee was "seismic" and that she "doesn't always suffer fools gladly".
He recounted: "I do remember after a rather long-winded interjection by one of the committee members, she had actually forgotten to turn her microphone off, and she did manage to utter the immortal words 'I think this person is probably the most stupid person in world sport'."
Reaction in the room
The comment "echoed absolutely around the room", according to Lord Coe, but the Princess "never flinched" and carried on as though nothing had happened. He added: "It was as though it had never happened, and we just moved on, but it is probably one of my favourite moments."
Diet behind her stamina
Princess Anne, who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics and played a significant role in securing London as host city for 2012, is consistently ranked among the hardest-working royals. Former royal chef Darren McGrady previously told TODAY that she preferred overripe bananas "because they digest easier".
A medical director at The Slimming Clinic noted that protein helps with weight loss and maintaining muscle mass, and suggested foods she might eat regularly include salmon, whole eggs, and grass-fed beef.
