Prince William's Favourite Meal: A Simple £3.32 Roast Chicken
Prince William's Favourite Meal Is a Simple £3.32 Roast Chicken

Prince William's favourite food is reportedly a simple roast chicken dinner, a dish that is both inexpensive and easy to prepare for a family. A small whole chicken costs £3.32 at Sainsbury's, making it an affordable option.

A Royal Favourite Revealed

According to Vanity Fair, Princess Catherine enjoys cooking the classic meal for her husband. The publication reported: "In the evenings, [Kate] indulges her hobby of cooking William’s favourite supper, roast chicken."

E! later confirmed that his preference had not changed, stating that "Kate would go to the supermarket and make William a roast chicken dinner for when he got home from work."

William's Cooking Skills

While roast chicken is his favourite, William has previously revealed his signature dish is steak, but he gets "really worried" about overcooking it. He admitted he is not the best cook, joking: "I do like cooking, but I'm not very good."

Mary Berry recommends using tarragon, lemon and ginger to make the ultimate roast chicken.

Childhood Pizza Trick

His preferences have not always been so traditional. Former royal chef Darren McGrady said that a young William once tried to trick him into serving pizza instead of his new favourite. McGrady explained that William and Harry swapped their nanny's instructions for their own note asking for pizza, but he recognised their writing and gave them roast chicken in fear of the nanny's response.

Kate's Spicier Tastes

Kate, on the other hand, is known to love curry and spicier foods. At a reception at the Aga Khan Centre in 2019, she said she had to cook several versions to make it suitable for their children. "It’s so hard cooking curry with the family, though. The children have a portion with no spice, yours is medium," she said to William. "And I quite like it hot."

Prince William's go-to is a mellow chicken masala. "I'm not a vindaloo man, put it that way," he jested. Apparently, his daughter Charlotte is even better at handling spices than he is.
