Prince Philip's Blunt Nickname for Meghan Markle Exposed in New Biography
According to royal historian Hugo Vickers in his new biography of the late Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip routinely referred to Meghan Markle with a dismissive two-word nickname: 'The American'. This revelation sheds light on the late Duke of Edinburgh's notoriously blunt manner, which often extended to members of his own family.
Private Code and Historical Comparisons
Vickers further discloses that Philip privately dubbed Meghan 'DoW', his personal code for 'Duchess of Windsor', referencing Wallis Simpson. This comparison draws parallels between Meghan and the controversial American divorcee whose relationship with King Edward VIII led to his abdication in 1936, one of the most dramatic crises in royal history.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward, speaking on GB News, elaborated that Philip saw an 'uncanny' resemblance beyond mere physical traits. She noted, 'He wasn't simply referring to the fact that both were pencil-slim, dark-haired and glamorous American divorcees.' Seward added in her 2023 book, 'My Mother and I', that Philip was wary of Meghan's charm from the start, detecting similarities to Wallis Simpson early on.
Context of Philip's Infamous Attitude
Prince Philip, who passed away in April 2021 just before his 100th birthday, was well-known for his undiplomatic remarks and frequent public blunders. His offensive comments often targeted those he considered 'foreign', including asking indigenous Australians if they were 'still throwing spears' and criticizing electrical work as looking 'put in by an Indian'.
Vickers also reveals in his biography that Queen Elizabeth II once 'torn Meghan off a strip' after she was rude to a royal gardener. However, on the Daily Telegraph's royal podcast, Vickers diplomatically declined to comment when asked if Philip had 'seen through Meghan's theatrical ways'.
Harry's Perspective on Unconscious Bias
Prince Harry has publicly addressed issues of bias within the Royal Family. In an interview with Black Lives Matter activist Patrick Hutchinson for GQ magazine, Harry stated there has always been a 'huge level' of unconscious bias among his relatives. He admitted, 'Unconscious bias, from my understanding, having the upbringing and the education that I had, I had no idea what it was. It took me many, many years to realise it, especially then living a day or a week in my wife's shoes.'
Harry suggested that such prejudice is 'learned from the older generation, or from advertising, from your environment', and emphasized the need for acknowledgment to break the cycle. This context adds depth to the revelations about Philip's nicknames, highlighting ongoing tensions and perceptions within the monarchy.
