Prince Harry Arrives in the UK Alone for Five-Day Visit
Prince Harry is due back in the UK this week for a five-day trip, but without his wife Meghan Markle and their children. The family had initially planned to travel together, marking the children's first visit to the UK in four years. However, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee rejected an application for taxpayer-funded, armed police protection during the London leg of their stay. Citing security fears, Meghan and the children pulled out of the London visit, leaving Harry to travel alone.
Purpose of the Trip: Invictus Games Preparations and Charity Events
The Duke of Sussex's engagements begin on Tuesday in London before moving on to Birmingham. The primary purposes are to prepare for the Invictus Games and to attend charity events. The schedule spans five days of public appearances and meetings.
King Charles's Offer and Harry's Rejection
King Charles reportedly offered to accommodate the family at a secure, undisclosed royal residence, widely believed to be Buckingham Palace. While the palace itself is heavily secure, Prince Harry’s representatives rejected the arrangement. According to a spokesperson, the family argued that "risk follows the person, not the place," emphasizing that they would still be unprotected the moment they stepped outside royal premises for public engagements.
Possibility of Meghan and Children Joining Later
While the family has entirely ruled out visiting London, a spokesperson confirmed they have not completely dismissed visiting other parts of Britain where different security arrangements might apply. There is a slight possibility that Meghan and the children could bypass London entirely and travel straight to Birmingham later in the week, under the protection of their private international security team.
Last Meeting with King Charles
Prince Harry last saw his father, King Charles, in September last year during a brief meeting at Clarence House in London. This upcoming visit marks another opportunity for a potential reunion, though no official meeting has been confirmed.
