Prince Harry's Summer UK Return Amid King Charles' US Visit
Prince Harry is scheduled for a high-profile return to the United Kingdom this summer, but expectations for a royal reconciliation during this visit may be premature. The Duke of Sussex will attend an event marking the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham and support the WellChild charity, of which he has long been patron.
King Charles' US Visit and Family Dynamics
Meanwhile, King Charles is preparing for an official state visit to the United States, a trip that had been uncertain due to diplomatic tensions between Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Donald Trump regarding UK involvement in Middle East conflicts. The 77-year-old monarch's visit could potentially help ease UK-US relations, which have been under scrutiny recently.
Despite both being in North America simultaneously, reports indicate Charles will not meet with his youngest son or grandchildren Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, during his US stay. The geographical distance remains substantial even when both are on the same continent, with approximately 3,000 miles separating their locations.
Security Concerns and Sandringham Speculation
Recent speculation suggested Harry was seeking a Sandringham invitation this summer, primarily because such an invitation would automatically trigger police security protection. This security would enable him to bring his children to the UK for the first time in nearly four years, as he has repeatedly stated he doesn't feel it's safe to bring Archie and Lilibet without proper protection.
However, sources indicate Harry has made no formal request for a Sandringham invitation, contrary to circulating rumors. The security situation remains complex six years after Harry lost his automatic police protection. Earlier this year, reports suggested the Risk Assessment Committee (Ravec) might rule in his favor following an official risk assessment, but the matter remains unresolved.
Government Hesitation and Security Protocols
A Home Office source revealed government "nervousness" about reinstating Harry's automatic police security due to potential public backlash. While political figures express reservations, security experts reportedly believe protection is essential due to existing threats.
Currently, Harry operates under a "bespoke" security arrangement requiring three months' notice for visits, with Ravec deciding protection on a case-by-case basis. When denied protection, he relies on private security, which he claims lacks sufficient intelligence access and jurisdiction to ensure family safety.
Legal Challenges and Family Relations
Last year, Harry lost a legal challenge to reinstate his security and revealed in a BBC interview that King Charles "won't speak to me because of this security stuff." Family relations remain strained, with Harry and Prince William reportedly completely estranged.
A source familiar with Ravec processes commented, "Everyone, presumably including the parents, must be horrified by any suggestion of using the King's grandchildren as a form of bargaining tool in that process."
The focus now remains on official risk assessment results rather than royal invitations. Commentators have suggested the Sussex family should receive no special invitation from the King, while Harry maintains that introducing his children to their British heritage remains important to him, contingent on adequate security measures being in place.
