Mirror royal editor Russell Myers has revealed that Prince Harry bounded up to him with a surprise comment at an Invictus event, leaving him nearly falling over. The unexpected encounter took place at the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in London, where the Duke of Sussex was honouring former servicemen and women.

Speaking on the Mirror's Pod Save the King podcast, Myers recalled his previous interactions with Harry, noting that journalists are usually kept behind a rope while the prince scowls from a distance. However, this time was different, as Harry seemed to be in a jovial mood.
Myers said: "But this time, he was speaking to other people and he saw us out of the corner of his eye, then bounded up to me and another journalist, and he was super cheery, just grinning like the Cheshire cat."
Charm Offensive Noted by Royal Team
"Then he shook our hands and said 'How are you doing? Great to see you, thanks for coming, really good to see you!' and I must admit I nearly fell over," Myers added. He went on to explain that he had never received such a reaction from Harry before, noting that other members of the Royal Family are generally more friendly.
The Mirror's deputy royal editor Jennifer Newton said the Duke is now on a 'charm offensive', a description Myers agreed with, suggesting Harry is trying to 'kill them with kindness'. Myers expressed surprise that Harry came over to say hello while he was reporting on the awards.
Private Citizen Status Questioned
Myers also referenced the Palace statement describing Harry and Meghan as 'private citizens' not acting on behalf of the monarchy, questioning whether this title now allows Harry to be more casual at engagements. He asked: "Is this the work of a private citizen? Can he now be a bit more jolly? Can he allow himself to have fun now the pressure is over?"
Jennifer added: "Well does this also show that he's just happy being back in his home country? Maybe California life didn't suit him so much and he's happy to be back."
