The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a surprise return to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after six years living in the United States. The family is said to be settling in the UK for an “extended period” of time, with the Cotswolds suggested as the most likely destination.
However, according to a source speaking to The Mail on Sunday, Prince Harry is still in the “Oprah mindset” and believes he is owed an “apology” from his family. The source told the paper: “Friends who caught up with Harry were expecting to hear noises of contrition and humility. Instead, there will be no imminent mea culpa from Harry by the sounds of things. Far from it, in fact. He is still in that Oprah mindset.”
Resentment Towards Royal Advisors
The source added that Harry still holds resentment towards royal advisors, whom he blames for the rift over the past few years, rather than the fallout from his own television and publishing ventures. They said: “They were agog to hear he still feels angry with members of the Royal Family, is still frustrated by the 'men in grey suits' who surround his father, and still expects an apology.”
Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals, having quit their duties in 2020 when they moved to Canada and then California. It was in the US where they gave their first tell-all interview to Oprah Winfrey, criticising the monarchy and alluding to racial overtones when they claimed an unnamed royal family member wondered “how dark” their then-unborn son Archie's complexion might be.
Continued Criticism and Unanswered Questions
The Sussexes continued their critique of Harry's family with a Netflix documentary and the release of the Duke's memoir, Spare. The couple have yet to speak publicly about their plans since the return was revealed last week.
Many questions remain unanswered, including whether taxpayers will foot the bill for their security. The Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, previously declined to comment on their security arrangements, calling the funding a “private matter”. Harry has previously insisted it was too dangerous to bring his wife and children to the UK with the security he was entitled to post-Megxit. It is understood there have been at least six threats or plots concerning the duke from the Taliban, al Qaida or their supporters since 2007.
