Prince Harry reportedly will not attend any high-profile events to mark Remembrance Day this year, as he does not want to take the focus away from the national commemorations attended by the Royal Family.
Every year, the Royal Family lead the nation in remembering all those who have served with a poignant service at the Cenotaph in London. They also tend to make appearances at other remembrance events around the country, including attending the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Private Commemoration Planned
Since quitting royal life in 2020, Prince Harry has not attended these events with the royals. Instead, he has marked the day in his own way. This has included attending events in America, where he lived until last month, and Canada.
However, this year, a friend of the Duke of Sussex has said that Harry, who feels strongly about Remembrance Day after serving in the army, will instead mark the day privately so as not to take the limelight away from the national events.
Friend Explains Decision
The prince’s friend told Hello! Magazine: "He's not going to do anything that would pull focus from the Royal Family or the national commemorations at the Cenotaph in London.
"More likely, he'll mark it in the same way that most veterans do, privately, either at church or at their local war memorial's annual service."
The friend continued: "For Harry, Remembrance Sunday is a deeply personal and important occasion, a time to honour those who have served, remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and stand alongside veterans.
"He has no desire to create drama or do anything that could distract from his family's role in the national commemorations."
First UK Remembrance Since 2019
Harry has not taken part in National Remembrance Sunday events since November 2019 - the last Remembrance Day when he was a working royal.
This Remembrance Day will be the first time since he quit royal life in 2020 that he will be in the UK for the poignant day, with the duke and his family having relocated back to Britain last month.
