Prince George's 'PG' nickname revealed as he starts at Eton

Prince George, who is second in line to the British throne after his father, Prince William, has reportedly been affectionately dubbed "PG" by his former classmates, a playful reference to his "Prince George" initials. According to The Sun, Princess Catherine and Prince William also use the nicknames "PG" or "PG Tips" for their son, reminiscent of the popular British tea brand.

Nickname among family and classmates

It remains to be seen whether his new schoolmates at Eton College, where he recently began his studies, will adopt the moniker he acquired at his former school. The young prince's siblings also have nicknames. Prince William has one for his daughter, Princess Charlotte, too. During the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show, Prince William was reportedly overheard using this pet name.

He allegedly referred to his daughter as "Mignonette", which translates from French as "cute", reports the Express. One woman who encountered the couple revealed that Princess Charlotte's parents also call her "Lottie." She informed the Daily Mail: "I said he is four and she said 'oh, he's the same age as Lottie' - she calls her Lottie!".

Prince Louis's nickname and royal transition

As for Prince Louis, Princess Catherine inadvertently revealed his nickname during a royal engagement with the scouts. While roasting marshmallows, she remarked: "Pop that on the fire Lou-bugs." Prince Louis was eager to sample his toasted marshmallow. With assistance from his mum and a scout leader, he assembled it, prompting William to comment: "You won't hear a peep out of him now."

Prince George was confronted with a "daunting" reality as he transitioned to Eton, royal commentator Jennie Bond revealed to the Mirror. The young royal's inaugural day was captured on camera as he arrived accompanied by his parents. Eton's headmaster, Simon Henderson, and Sir Nicholas Coleridge, the school's Provost, who acts as the chair of the governing body, welcomed the trio in the quadrangle. "Welcome," Henderson said to him. "Good luck. Enjoy it."

Private education ahead

Following the brief photo opportunity, it is the desire of William and Catherine that George's education will proceed out of the public eye. Meanwhile, both of his parents are reportedly gradually preparing him for his future role.
