Prince George, second in line to the British throne, was reportedly given the nickname "PG" by his former classmates, a nod to his "Prince George" initials. The name has apparently caught on at home, with Prince William and Princess Catherine also using it.
Nickname adopted by the family
According to The Sun, the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to call their son "PG" or "PG Tips," referencing the British tea brand. It is not yet known whether his new classmates at Eton College, where he recently started, have adopted the nickname.
Prince George isn't the only royal with a nickname. Prince William reportedly called his daughter, Princess Charlotte, "Mignonette," which is French for "cute," during the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show. One woman who met the couple told the Daily Mail that Princess Charlotte's parents also call her "Lottie."
Prince Louis's nickname revealed
Princess Catherine let slip Prince Louis's nickname during a royal engagement with the scouts. While toasting marshmallows, she said: "Pop that on the fire Lou-bugs." Prince Louis was keen to tuck into his toasted marshmallow, with his mum and a scout leader helping him put it together, as William remarked: "You won't hear a peep out of him now."
Prince George started at Eton this September, with his first day pictured on camera as he arrived with his parents. Royal commentator Jennie Bond told the Mirror that the young royal faced a "daunting" reality as he made the change to Eton.
Welcome to Eton
Eton's headmaster, Simon Henderson, and Sir Nicholas Coleridge, the school's Provost, who serves as the chair of the governing body, greeted the trio in the quadrangle. "Welcome," Henderson told him. "Good luck. Enjoy it." After the brief photocall, it is William and Catherine's wish that George's education will take place away from public view. All the while, both of his parents are said to be slowly easing him into his future role.
