Former royal chef Darren McGrady has shared a story highlighting Princess Anne's sharp wit, comparing her sense of humour to that of her late father, Prince Philip. McGrady, who worked for the royal family for 15 years, recalled the incident as he was disembarking from a flight to Balmoral.
He described seeing an RAF officer greet the Princess Royal after the flight. When the officer asked how the journey was, Anne reportedly replied: 'Have you ever flown before?' The officer confirmed he had, and she responded: 'Well it was just like that.'
McGrady, speaking to Heart Bingo, said: 'I adore Princess Royal, I think she's fantastic. She has Prince Philip's sense of humour.' The anecdote was shared ahead of Anne's 75th birthday on August 15.
Despite her milestone birthday, Anne remains the hardest-working royal, completing 474 engagements last year—more than King Charles. Tanya Curry, chief executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, praised Anne's stamina during a royal tour, noting she struggled to keep up with the princess, who took the stairs 'like a mountain goat'.
A new photograph of Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, taken at a Windsor Castle state banquet, was released to mark her birthday. Anne, who is linked to over 300 charities, celebrated by uniting several of them at a Buckingham Palace forum.
