Buckingham Palace contacts sometimes completely ignore messages and emails from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's team, according to journalist Charlotte Griffiths. Speaking on Peter Cardwell's TalkTV programme, Griffiths said palace officials told her they receive more correspondence from the Sussexes than they respond to.
Claims of ignored correspondence
"They said they receive more messages and emails and letters from Harry and Meghan than they respond to, and that sometimes they just completely ignore messages and emails from their team," Griffiths said.
She added that both the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace are "incredibly guarded" with one another. The comments follow reports that Meghan has been recording all her exchanges with her in-laws.
Record-keeping for protection
Griffiths said the rumour that Meghan kept detailed records of interactions while living in the UK was persistent, and that courtiers were "absolutely terrified" of it. She noted that this time the record would be easy to keep "because there isn't a lot of interaction".
Separately, a source told Closer that Harry and Meghan keep records of royal communications for their own protection. The insider said: "Meghan and Harry don't want to react to every problem, but they say they've learned the hard way that they need to keep a record of what's being said and agreed to by people within The Firm, because the goal posts constantly change."
The source alleged the couple have had "very tricky situations" where one courtier gave them instructions and another told them the opposite, adding: "They say they have no choice but to document everything the way they're doing - it's for their protection day-to-day."
The reports follow a row over lodging during Harry's recent UK visit and a Palace statement clarifying that the Sussexes are no longer working members of the Royal Family. The couple moved back to the UK last month.
