Prince Harry is reportedly facing mounting frustration as he attempts to resolve a long-standing security issue ahead of his upcoming visit to the UK with his wife, Meghan, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family is scheduled to be in the country between July 7 and 11, but doubts have emerged after the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) paused the independent Risk Management Board without explanation.
The Duke of Sussex had been informed that the matter would have been settled by March, according to sources close to his office. A spokesperson for Harry said he 'continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK'.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News that the situation was 'chaotic' and that the couple had only themselves to blame. 'On the one hand, it is very curious indeed that the assessment by RAVEC, which was promised last December after he lobbied the Home Secretary, has not taken place. This has always been a red line for him after the tragic death of his mother,' he said. 'The fault here is that the Sussexes have planned this so publicly – the rift is deep.'
It is understood that the King has offered a royal residence to Harry and Meghan for the visit, an offer the couple have yet to respond to, and that security would be included in the stay. The family have not visited the UK together since June 2022, when they attended Lilibet's first birthday, and Meghan has not been to the country since September 2022. The Sussexes are reportedly travelling around Europe before their return to the UK.
