Melania Trump has offered a rare glimpse into her family life with US President Donald Trump and their son, Barron Trump. The 56-year-old spoke about balancing her personal and professional commitments during an appearance on Fox Business's The Big Money Show, where co-host Taylor Riggs asked how she manages to make time for her family despite her demanding schedule.
First Lady admits to limited family time
During the interview, the First Lady acknowledged that she does not get to spend as much time with President Donald Trump and their son, Barron Trump, as she would like because of their busy schedules. She also appeared to suggest that Barron, who is currently studying at New York University, is now a young man who may prefer his independence.
Ms Riggs said: “You are so busy and you're such an inspiration to young moms out there who are trying to do it all - [you] run businesses, charities, organize state dinners, run a family.
“Do you still try to get your family together for Sunday night dinners or try to see Barron when you can? What are pieces of advice for moms who feel like they’re so stretched thin, trying to do it all, but at the end of the day just want maybe a dinner at night with their family?”
Advice to schedule family time
The First Lady said that the only advice is to “schedule” time for family in advance. She added: “It’s good to schedule, it’s always good because everybody’s so busy.”
Sharing more about her struggles to spend time with her husband as well as her son, Barron, she said: “My husband is working - sometimes he’s in the Oval Office until 9.30 at night, so do you wait [until then to] have dinner? You don’t. He’s busy, I’m busy too.
“It’s less and less family time, [and there's] suffering because of it. But that’s okay. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that’s what matters.
“Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he’s maybe even happy that I just want to do my stuff. And that’s okay.”
Barron's summer with his mother
Despite Melania Trump's comments about spending less time with her family, reports suggested that Barron Trump spent much of the summer alongside his mother at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.
