In the three years since their exit from the Royal Family, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have pursued their own careers, with ventures including deals with streaming giants, their own non-profit organisation and the publication of books. However, a number of their most successful endeavours have been at the expense of their UK family members, with royal revelations and anecdotes largely seen as a huge contributing factor to their success and relevancy.
Channel 5 recently delved into the lives of Harry and Meghan in a documentary titled Harry and Meghan: What Next?, which saw commentators speculate about what the future may hold for the couple. Phil Dampier, author of Royally Suited, told the documentary: “The Sussexes reportedly have other projects in the pipeline with Netflix, non-related to the royals, and I think that will be good for them, to concentrate on those for a while.”
Harry and Meghan signed a deal with Netflix, reportedly worth around £109 million ($142 million), in 2020, just months after stepping down from their royal duties and relocating to the US. According to reports at the time, they intended to make TV series, films and children’s shows. In a statement, the Sussexes claimed their “focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope”.
Simon Vigar, Five News’s Royal Correspondent, suggested Meghan may return to acting and that Harry could become a presenter of wildlife documentaries. “He has the knowledge, he has the passion,” Vigar said. His comments came months after the publication of Spare, in which Harry recalled his visits to Africa and chronicled his love for the continent.
In an interview with Variety magazine in November 2022, Meghan spoke about the couple’s “ideal project for Archewell”, emphasising the importance of their “love story” and expansive definition of love, including partner love, self-love, and the love of community and family. She also highlighted the Invictus Games as a significant part of Harry’s work.
