Meghan Markle has kept a low profile since returning to the UK with Prince Harry, and a former friend believes he has identified her "biggest problem" in the country. PR expert Nick Ede, who was friends with the Duchess of Sussex before she began dating Harry in 2016, shared his thoughts on the Vanessa by Royal Appointment podcast with Vanessa Feltz.
Former Friend's Insight
Nick Ede met Meghan when she came to the UK while starring in the TV show Suits. He took her to meet agents and to fashion shows before their relationship eventually cooled. Speaking about her return, Ede said: "I understand the game, I understand it extremely well. I have lots of friends in Hollywood who tell me lots of horrific stories about Meghan. Some of them I'm sure are true, some of them maybe not. But everyone does have an opinion, and that's going to be her biggest problem (after returning to the UK)."
Ede also suggested that another issue for Meghan is that no one in the UK knows what she is good at, making it difficult for her to be categorised. He said: "We love to pigeonhole people in the UK especially, and one minute she's a great mother, one minute she's an entrepreneur, then you're a public speaker."
Relationship Cooling
Reflecting on their friendship, Ede said: "No, I'm not friendly with her (anymore). It's not that we ever fell out, we just went our separate ways. She's very good at going her separate ways from people. She went her separate way. I think because I have friends in the media, obviously she's part of the Royal Family, she decided that wasn't right. She also knows I know a lot of mutual friends as well, and we always say this, there are people more useful to her than I was at the time. I did a lot of stuff with her, we were really good friends, we had a lovely relationship."
While Harry has appeared at events such as the WellChild Awards, Meghan has been seen in public only a few times, including a lunch date with her husband. Experts suggest she will find the UK return more challenging than Harry as she struggles to find her place away from California. A part in the Netflix show The Gentlemen was mooted but has yet to materialise, and the PR expert also claims he has heard that celebrities in the Cotswolds have knocked back offers to meet with the Sussexes.
