Meghan Markle will reportedly split her time between the UK and America, according to a journalist citing sources close to the Sussexes. Prince Harry, his wife and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, landed in the UK on Wednesday, ahead of starting their new life back in England.
Reasons Behind the Move
The surprising U-turn comes following their private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla in July. The pair are thought to be living in a non-royal residence in the Cotswolds, though this has not been confirmed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly made the move because they wanted their children to be educated in the UK. Some commentators have also suggested that Charles' ongoing health issues could be another possible influence.
Expert's View on Meghan's Future
Discussing the couple's move and future on the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential podcast, editor-at-large Alison Boshoff suggested Meghan is unlikely to make the UK her permanent home, even if Harry and the children spend more time here. She said the former Suits actress would continue travelling back to Montecito for work, while the family could also return to California during school holidays, including to visit Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland.
Discussing reports that Meghan could be starring in Netflix's The Gentlemen, the journalist said she believes the story may have been pushed out as a distraction from the bigger development of them relocating. She went on to say the mother-of-two will be “to and fro” America for paid work.
Addressing reports of Meghan reportedly ruling out a return to acting, Alison said: "I think you'd be foolish to overstate her enthusiasm to go back to acting and she has other things she wants to do and to be fair, as ever, it isn't yet a complete failure, her producing gigs, there are still things which are in development, their company is not bust." She noted that although Meghan had previously suggested that acting was part of her past, she has since made a brief on-screen appearance as herself in a small cameo.
Christmas Plans and Family Relations
Discussing her future, Alison went on to say the “smart [and] ambitious” mother-of-two still has projects in development and said she is determined to make things succeed. Later in the chat, the editor addressed reports that the Royal Family could be set for “separate turkeys” this Christmas.
While the Sussexes are said to be on improved terms with King Charles and Queen Camilla following their recent private meeting, they are still thought to be estranged from Prince William and the Princess of Wales. She added that she had been told the plan is for the Sussexes to spend school holidays — with Christmas the first major one — back in Montecito.
"I'm told that is the plan is to go back to Montecito in the school holidays, first one coming up is Christmas," she added. "I think it's really wise and sensible," she added. "I think from what I'm told there is not a desire to be provocative."
