Meghan Markle could face a “sad” predicament as “burned bridges will never be forgotten,” according to veteran broadcaster Simon Vigar. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, saw her reputation decline after stepping down as a working royal in 2020, leaving fractured relationships with many in the Firm.
Speaking to the People's Channel, Vigar said the rift with the Prince and Princess of Wales will likely never fully resolve: “I can't see the rift with the family, particularly with William and Catherine; it's obviously never going to go back to the way it was, which is terribly sad.”
No return to the Firm
On the possibility of the Sussexes returning to royal duties, Vigar added: “If they were to come back, which I don't see happening anytime soon, and share the load once William and Catherine are on the throne, maybe then, but I don't think Harry wants it, and I'm pretty sure Meghan doesn't want to, and I don't think they care.”
Discussing their fractured relationships, he said: “They've burned a lot of bridges and invaded a lot of other people's privacy along the way. And that will never be forgiven or forgotten, really.”
Recent UK visit
The expert's comments came after Meghan made a return to the UK earlier this month with her two children. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited by the King and Queen to a meeting at Highgrove House on July 10—the first time the King saw his two youngest grandchildren in person since 2022.
William and Kate did not meet the Sussexes during the visit. Meghan later shared pictures on Instagram from the family's “summer holiday,” including images of Archie and Lilibet at the Althorp estate, where Princess Diana is buried.
