Meghan Markle sported a black ensemble for her appearance as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, and royal fans were left divided over her choice.
The Duchess of Sussex appeared on the 18th season of the cooking show on Sunday, when contestants were challenged to transform a staple ingredient into a dish “fit for a duchess”. The episode was filmed during Meghan and Prince Harry’s week-long trip to Australia in April, when the couple carried out charitable and commercial engagements across Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
Outfit Details and Cost
On Sunday’s episode, Meghan looked elegant in a black long-sleeve silk shirt by Australian brand Matteau (£394), paired with Camilla and Marc’s high corset midi skirt, also in black (£500). She completed the look with Manolo Blahnik’s BB 105 high heels in black suede (£695) and pearl drop earrings, bringing the total for her outfit to £1,589.
Fan Reactions Divided
Some royal fans admired her style. One user said on WhatMeghanWore’s Instagram fashion page: “Love love love this elegant look.” A second user added: “She’s exceptionally elegant!!” A third commented: “I love how her style is so clean now. Minimalistic chic, love it.” A fourth wrote: “Always fabulous, always on point!”
But others were less favourable. One user said: “I was hoping she would wear something other than all black. To be honest, the dresses that the other ladies are wearing are more interesting.” Another commented on X: “She looks like Morticia Addams of the Addams Family.” A third said: “Markle looks like she's attending a funeral.” Another added: “She looks like Elvira (laughing face emoji).”
Meghan's Love for Local Designers
During her trip Down Under earlier this year, the duchess told Australian Women’s Weekly: “I love being able to wear local designers and celebrate the craftsmanship that's happening in whatever region I'm travelling to.”
