Meghan Markle made an unusual request to guests at her first wedding in 2011, asking them to refrain from using social media, a move that reportedly prompted laughter and disbelief among those in attendance.
The Duchess of Sussex, now 44, was married to American film producer Trevor Engelson for two years. The couple tied the knot in August 2011 and separated in 2013, with their divorce finalised in 2014. Meghan later met Prince Harry in 2016, and the pair married in May 2018.
Request met with laughter
According to Tina Brown's book The Palace Papers, a guest at the 2011 wedding recalled the request. The guest said: "The only jarring note is that Meghan sent out a note requesting 'no social media, please'.
"We were all laughing because she had been on Suits for a few months, and at that point, we were like, is she kidding me? She was like, 'I'm a really big actress'."
Life after the wedding
At the time, Meghan was known for her role as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits, and the wedding was covered briefly by Hollywood Reporter.
Meghan and Harry have been married for eight years and have two children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet. The family recently returned to the UK after spending six years in America.
