The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly attempting to mend ties with the Royal Family, seeking to regain their favour.
Visit to the UK
Meghan Markle, 44, spent a few days in Britain earlier this month alongside Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The visit marked her first proper trip to the UK since 2022.
Relevance and Reconciliation
According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, the couple's efforts are driven by a need to stay relevant. Seward told The Sun: “I think Harry is keen to reconcile with the family, and I am sure that Meghan does too as she needs that sparkle of royal gold dust around her so she becomes relevant again and her overall popularity improves.”
Popularity Concerns
Seward added: “I am sure the pair are grovelling. At the moment at home for Meghan the Americans hate her. Her popularity is shattered – of course there will always be the Meghan superfans – but largely she is seen as somebody who breaks ties with her own family and she is seen as splitting Harry and the children from their family too. The Americans also love the Royals too, so winning them back would help her situation enormously. Meghan needs to mend those fences, but she is having to take a back seat and gradually work around this.”
Security and Private Time
While Harry spent nearly a week in the UK, Meghan and the children stayed only a few days due to security concerns. They joined Harry after an enhanced private security package was arranged, reportedly because they were not granted armed police protection. During their time in Britain, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet made no public appearances but enjoyed private family time, including a visit to Althorp and a reunion at Highgrove with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
