King Charles urged not to attend Harry's Invictus event

King Charles has been urged by members of the public not to attend a major event with Prince Harry next year. The monarch, who is believed to be on talking terms with his youngest son, may be considering attending Harry's Invictus Games competition in Birmingham next year. The event is aimed at helping wounded ex-servicemen and women. It is not known whether Harry has officially invited his father yet.

Poll shows overwhelming opposition

In a new poll by The Daily Express, royal fans have urged the King not to attend the event next year, which will run from the 10th to the 17th of July. In the poll, Daily Express readers were asked: "Should King Charles attend next year's Invictus Games?"

The poll, which ran from 7am on October 24 to 7am on October 28, saw 94% vote no, showing they do not want the monarch to attend. Only 5% said they wanted the King to attend, while 1% said they don't know.

Reader reactions

This is likely to be a blow for Harry, who reportedly wanted his father by his side at either the opening or closing ceremony. Explaining the reason behind their vote, one Daily Express reader said: "The King should definitely NOT attend Invictus, but he could easily dispatch Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, for the event!"

Someone else said: "No, he should not attend! The King needs to distance himself and the rest of the Royal family from Harry and Meghan."

Another person commented: "I do feel the King should not attend, after all this is during the Queen 80th birthday, however he could send well wishes via letter or video to to the veterans, volunteers and others involved with the games."

Someone else said: "The King should absolutely NOT attend."

No public comment from the King

King Charles has not publicly commented on the competition that will be held in Birmingham next year. However, it is unlikely he would attend the closing ceremony if he were to go, as this clashes with his wife Queen Camilla's 80th birthday.

While Camilla's birthday plans haven't yet been revealed, it is likely the King will host a special event to mark his wife's milestone birthday.
