Princess Kate had to teach Prince William how to give their children a piggyback, a former Kensington Palace maid revealed in a new book. The maid told author Tom Quinn that William quietly remarked, 'My father never gave me a piggyback.'
Behind the Scenes of Royal Parenting
The book, Yes Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, by Tom Quinn, offers intimate insights into the private dynamics of the royal couple. According to the maid, Kate had to explain many everyday parenting tasks that are common outside the royal family.
King Charles and William's Temperament
Another former staff member told Quinn that both King Charles and Prince William 'get irritated very quickly' and are 'very picky.' In such situations, Kate often acts as a calming influence. The insider added, 'I don't know where William would be without Kate — she calms him down when he gets a bit fractious. She said he sometimes has to be treated as her fourth child.'
Kate's Approach to Palace Life
Kate was praised for her ability to navigate the snooty attitudes of some palace staff. A former Kensington Palace employee said, 'Kate is someone who slowly and carefully absorbs the atmosphere of a place... She bides her time and is very intelligent and intuitive.' She was also coached by William and staff to avoid the problems faced by Princess Diana.
Royal Marriage and Titles
Kate married Prince William on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey. She became Princess of Wales on September 9, 2022, after William was created Prince of Wales by King Charles III. The previous Princess of Wales, Diana, died in a car crash in August 1997.
