Joanne McNally, a contestant on The Celebrity Traitors, has no cartilage in her nose, a rare condition she has used as a party trick. The 43-year-old Irish comedian can flatten her nose completely against her face before reshaping it back to normal.
She demonstrated this ability during series 17, episode 8 of Channel 4's Taskmaster UK, presenting a rubber cast of her nose and allowing host Greg Davies to compress her actual nose. Viewers shared their reactions on Reddit, with one commenting: "This makes me so uncomfortable, especially in a still it looks like she hasn't got a nose at all! Every time I see it I instinctively press on my own nose." Another wrote: "This made me jump up in disgust, but I can't stop looking at it."
Career and Personal Life
McNally has discussed her cartilage-free nose in interviews, revealing that fellow Irish comic PJ Gallagher also has the same condition. She grew up with her adoptive family in Killiney, County Dublin, and previously co-presented Republic of Telly for RTÉ, also appearing on The Late Late Show, The Afternoon Show, Ireland AM, Two Tube, and The Commute. Alongside her RTÉ 2fm work, she co-presents the podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me with Vogue Williams.
McNally is thought to be single after her breakup with former boyfriend Alan Byrne following a two-year romance. Speaking on Vogue's podcast, she confirmed: "So me and Alan have parted ways" before revealing details about a work trip to Vegas with her newly-single agent Christina.
Split and Dating History
She went on: "It was a bit of a blowout, we needed it. I wasn't really ar**d [meeting men], but what I will say is I knew she [Christina] was a big hit with men, she does have film star vibes." But the men were chatting her up and there was a stream of them. "I was like 'Dude, I'm sorry I'm here but where am I supposed to go? I'm sorry my face repulses you'."
McNally first revealed her former partner to listeners of her podcast with Vogue in May 2022, giving him the nickname "Prada Peter". At the time, she disclosed they had connected on Raya and revealed neither would be removing the celebrity dating app, given how exclusive it is and the fact they'd found each other through the platform.
Celebrity Traitors Participation
McNally is among the 21 celebrity contestants in BBC's The Celebrity Traitors series two, alongside fellow comedians James Acaster, Joe Lycett, Miranda Hart, Rob Beckett, and Romesh Ranganathan. She has cautioned audiences that despite being well-acquainted with many of her comedy colleagues, they are all "more than willing to throw each other under the bus" and will "absolutely kill each other off for the craic".
Describing herself as "quietly competitive", McNally has set her sights on being chosen as a Traitor and believes she excels at detecting deception. The Celebrity Traitors returns Wednesday, October 1 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
