Prince Harry's Australia Event Tickets Halved as Demand Falters
Organisers of a speaking event featuring Prince Harry in Australia have dramatically reduced ticket prices, cutting them by half as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare to embark on their tour Down Under. The move comes amid reports of weak demand for the couple's appearances, with ticket sales failing to meet expectations across various engagements.
Significant Price Cuts for Melbourne Summit
The cost of attending Prince Harry's keynote address at the InterEdge Summit in Melbourne has been slashed from an original price of £1,040 to just £520. This 50% reduction reflects the organisers' struggle to generate sufficient interest in the event, which is scheduled to take place later this week. The summit, focusing on workplace mental health, will feature the 41-year-old Prince alongside retired tennis champion Jelena Dokic and other speakers.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle's exclusive retreat event in Sydney has also encountered difficulties in selling out. Organisers have recently released unsold tickets for the 'Her Best Life' retreat, which was initially claimed to be fully booked. The event, hosted by radio personality Jackie 'O' Henderson, charges attendees £1,600 each for access to the Duchess at the Intercontinental Hotel in Coogee.
Royal Tour Faces Commercial Challenges
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are due to arrive in Australia on Thursday for what has been described as an unofficial tour. The visit includes multiple appearances, but commercial interest appears to be tepid. Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield noted that the dynamic has shifted significantly since the couple's previous visit in 2018.
"There is something dramatically different about maybe getting a glimpse of Harry and Meghan on the street when she's fresh and upcoming and new, and she's an actress, and you're curious to see Harry, who was the world's most eligible bachelor a year ago," Schofield explained. "And now you've got these two people that are saying, well for 3000 Australian dollars you can hang out with me. It totally changes the dynamic of your perception of them and the parasocial relationship you might have with them."
Financial Details and Event Particulars
It is understood that Prince Harry will receive £36,000 for his keynote address at the mental health summit, a substantial decrease from the £740,000 he was reportedly paid for attending a JP Morgan event in February 2020. Meghan Markle is set to earn £185,000 for hosting her Sydney retreat, which runs from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19.
The two-day summit at Melbourne Park promises to deliver powerful conversations on mental health issues, while Meghan's retreat is billed as offering relaxation, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. Attendees at the retreat can pay extra for a group photo with the Duchess and attend a gala dinner described as an in-person conversation contrasting the couple's 2018 and 2026 visits.
Organisers of Meghan's event initially capped attendance at 300 guests and claimed it had sold out, but a recent Instagram update revealed that the hotel had released additional rooms, encouraging interested parties to enquire via direct message. This suggests that demand remains below expectations despite the high-profile nature of the tour.
