Harry and Meghan's UK Return: 3 Key Impacts on Royals

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will return to the UK by the end of the month after six years living outside Britain. The couple left their royal roles in 2020. It is not yet known what interactions they will have with the Royal Family, but several aspects of their return carry significance for the royals.

Property and Location Plans

The couple have reportedly already secured a property, and they will not live in London. Although it is unknown where they will live, reports suggest it will likely be somewhere in the countryside, either the Cotswolds or the Northampton area.

King Charles's Reaction

King Charles was reportedly not involved in the decision made by his son and daughter-in-law. Reports say this was a “surprise” to him and the wider Royal Family. King Charles was told on Sunday that Harry and Meghan would be moving back, reports BBC. He is said to welcome the chance to spend more time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie.

Children's Connection to Britain

Prince Harry has spoken about how much he loves the UK, and now his two children will be able to experience it. The Sussexes visited the UK in July and paid a visit to King Charles and Queen Camilla while they were here.

“I think they had a really good trip here in the summer,” Sky News royal reporter Laura Bundock tells Variety. “Harry isn’t homesick, but I certainly think he wants his kids to understand more about British history and his homeland,” she adds.

Strained Relationship with Prince William

Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship remains broken. There has been no official comment from Prince William and Princess Catherine on the Sussexes moving back to the UK. Prince William has reportedly not forgiven Harry for his public airing of the family fallout through his memoir Spare and their interview with Oprah Winfrey.
