Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent a poignant final weekend in Montecito, California, before relocating to the UK, according to reports. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Britain earlier this week, six years after leaving for a new life in America.
The couple travelled with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, along with their two dogs, Pula and Mia. They are thought to still retain properties in Montecito and Portugal.
Final Weekend with Loved Ones
People magazine reported that the couple spent their last weekend in Montecito with close friends, friends of their children, and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland.
A source told the outlet: “They wanted to spend time with the people they’re closest to before they left and for the kids to have some special time with friends.”
“It wasn’t a goodbye forever. It was much more, ‘We’ll be back, but this is what we’re doing right now,’” the source added.
Emotional Farewell
The source claimed the farewell was emotional, adding: “They’ve been planning this for some time, and they feel it’s the right thing for their family, but that doesn’t mean leaving was easy.”
They added: “Meghan really loves their life in Montecito and their home there. They know it’s going to take a little bit of time for everyone to settle in and adjust.”
“There’s excitement about what’s ahead too, especially for the kids. They’re really happy for them and for everything they’ll get to experience,” the source said.
Arrival in the UK
Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet flew into the country on a private plane from California shortly before midday on Wednesday, landing at Birmingham Airport. The family were said to have travelled on a Bombardier Global Express XRS luxury long-range business jet for the overnight flight.
A spokesman for the duke and duchess declined to comment on their travel movements, citing the importance of privacy and security. “This is not something we would comment on,” the spokesman said.
