Harry and Meghan to Speak at Online Safety Memorial

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to travel to Brussels to attend the opening of The Lost Screen Memorial, an event designed to highlight the impact of online harm on children and families.

The trip was confirmed yesterday, ending a period of quiet for the couple in recent weeks. During the event, both Harry and Meghan will deliver keynote speeches.

Event Details and Speakers

Their team said the remarks are intended to "underline the importance of turning commitments into meaningful action and ensuring that the experiences of children and their families remain central to decisions about the digital future."

The event will also feature a keynote address by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, followed by remarks from MEP Antonio López-Istúriz, the formal host and First Vice-Chair of the Child Rights Intergroup. President Metsola will lead a small group, including MEP López-Istúriz, the Duke and Duchess, Emilio Puccio, and protocol officers, through the exhibition.

The opening will conclude with "a testimony from Sandra Spitaels, mother of Glenn, offering a deeply personal perspective on the impact of online harm on families."

Public Reaction

While the couple have attended similar events before and are known for their advocacy on child online safety, the announcement has drawn criticism. Some social media users questioned the couple's qualifications to speak on the subject.

One royal fan wrote on X: "They have NO Credibility!!!" Another said: "Yet they post their children on social media all the time. For what reason?"

Someone else commented: "Are these two supposed to be experts in online issue control? What an absolute joke! They can't even manage their own public image, yet expect others to take their advice. The hypocrisy is staggering!" Another person wrote: "Not qualified. Not members of the RF. Charade!"

Supporters of the couple, however, welcomed the news. One fan wrote on X: "It's a wonderful initiative." Someone else said: "Great stuff!"
