Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may leave the UK sooner than they previously anticipated, according to royal journalist Dickie Arbiter. Speaking on TalkTV with host Jeremy Kyle on Wednesday, Arbiter suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not in Britain for the long term.
"I'm not sure they are here long-term. I firmly believe that they will go back to Montecito for Christmas," he said.
Return to UK and royal status
The couple returned to the UK after years of living in Montecito, California, but their stay has been overshadowed by a formal reiteration from the King that they will be treated as "private citizens". The guidance was issued to the media via the Lord Chamberlain, the Royal Household's most senior officer, confirming the couple could not use their "HRH" titles.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were left "surprised" by the move, and it is understood they did not have enough time to clarify any points before the guidance was issued.
Impact on their stay
Jeremy Kyle commented on the situation, asking Arbiter whether the King's letter would mean the couple would not last long in the UK. "This preconceived belief they were going to come back and the King released this letter via Lord Chamberlain. Do you think this will mean they won't last long in the UK? It will be temporary. How long do you think they will be here?"
Arbiter's response suggests the couple's time in Britain may be short, with a return to Montecito expected for the festive period.
