Harry and Meghan popularity hits new low after UK return

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received their lowest popularity ratings yet in a new YouGov survey, just weeks after settling back into life in the UK. The quarterly tracker, which asks the British public for their views on members of the Royal Family, shows Meghan Markle's favourability has fallen to just 20 percent, the lowest score she has received on the tracker to date.

Meghan's Approval Rating Drops to 20 Percent

The survey, conducted on October 22-23, found that 68 percent of respondents view the Duchess critically, while 11 percent were unsure. These figures mark the lowest scores Meghan has received since the tracker began, reflecting a continued decline in her popularity since she and Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

Harry Also Sees a Dip in Favourability

Prince Harry's popularity has also taken a hit, with 29 percent of Britons now viewing him favourably, a four-point drop since the July survey. The previous poll had shown an uncharacteristic rise in Harry's approval, which appeared to be linked to his reunion with King Charles at Highgrove just days before that survey was conducted. In the latest poll, 60 percent of respondents hold an unfavourable view of the Duke, up two percent from the previous survey.

The results come just weeks after Harry and Meghan moved back to the UK for an 'extended stay'. The couple, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, arrived in Birmingham in late August and are believed to be residing in the Cotswolds. Shortly after their arrival, they undertook a day of engagements in Nottingham, visiting several charities and organisations, an outing some royal watchers dubbed a faux royal tour.

King Charles and Other Royals in the Poll

The least popular member of the Royal Family remains Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, with a favourability rating of just four percent, while 89 percent of respondents view him critically and seven percent were unsure.

At the top of the poll, the Prince and Princess of Wales remain the favourites, with William leading at 74 percent approval and Kate close behind at 72 percent. Princess Anne came in third with 68 percent, while Edward and Sophie each received 51 percent approval.

King Charles also saw a significant decline, with his approval rating falling to 58 percent, down 10 percent from the previous survey, marking his lowest favourability score since ascending the throne.
