Prince Harry has been given special permission by King Charles III to wear military uniform during a vigil at Queen Elizabeth II's coffin on Saturday. The Duke of Sussex, who was stripped of his military titles after stepping down as a working royal, will join his brother, the Prince of Wales, in uniform at Westminster Hall.
Harry, a veteran of two tours in Afghanistan, had previously worn civilian dress during official events, including the procession of the Queen's coffin to Westminster Hall on Wednesday. During the vigil, Prince Harry will stand at the foot of the coffin, while Prince William will take his place at the head.
The King's decision comes amid public calls for Harry to be allowed to wear his military uniform. The Duke will be flanked by Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, while Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn will stand at the middle of the coffin. The grandchildren will greet the Queen with a kiss on both cheeks followed by a curtsey or a bow.
On Friday evening, the Queen's children—King Charles, the Duke of York, the Princess Royal, and the Earl of Wessex—held their own vigil around the coffin, standing with heads bowed as mourners filed past.
