A former royal employee has revealed that King Charles III is 'absolutely not a monster in the office', despite the high-pressure environment of his household. The unnamed staffer, who worked for the monarch and Queen Camilla, shared insights with the Daily Beast, noting that while the King can 'snap sometimes', he is generally well-regarded by his staff.
The employee described the 75-year-old King, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, as 'extremely well prepared' and 'diligent and respectful of expertise'. They added that he does not 'suffer fools', but emphasised that 'people like working for him' despite the busy and demanding nature of his office.
King Charles became monarch in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. According to the Prince of Wales website, he employed 116 official staff before ascending the throne. Currently, his household includes 28 members, such as four chefs, five house managers, three valets and dressers, and a couple of butlers.
In comparison, the late Queen Elizabeth II had 491 full-time staff members before her passing in 2022. The former employee's comments come amid ongoing public interest in the royal household's working dynamics.
