Durek Verrett, the husband of Princess Martha Louise, has shared emotional messages following the death of his father-in-law, King Harald V of Norway, who passed away at the age of 89 on Friday.
Harald, who was King Charles's second cousin once removed, died on Friday morning, with his son automatically becoming King Haakon VIII. His other child, Princess Martha Louise, was seen visiting her father with the rest of the royal household on Thursday, during the late monarch's final hours.
Social media tribute
Martha Louise is married to Durek, an American self-proclaimed shaman, who was also admitted to Oslo University Hospital, the same hospital as Harald, for a kidney transplant. Durek took to his social media on Friday to share a new story showing Harald, writing: "Love you dad. I will miss all our fun times together."
In another story he said: "The most amazing man with a heart of pure gold."
A life remembered
Harald was a second cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth, meaning Charles is once removed. The oldest European monarch at the time of his death, Harald was crowned after his British-born father, King Olav V, died in January 1991.
He was born in 1937 in Asker, near Oslo, and was just three years old when the Nazis occupied Norway at the start of the Second World War.
Controversial figure
Durek and Martha Louise married in 2024. He has been a controversial figure after his various pseudoscientific New Age claims on alternative therapy practices. In 2023, he sparked controversy after he reportedly claimed that cancer is a choice and that a medallion helped him recover from COVID-19.
