The British Royal Family is in mourning following the announcement of the death of Her Royal Highness Katharine, the Duchess of Kent. She passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, the 2nd of October, at the age of 88.
A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed the sad news, expressing the family's profound sorrow. They described the Duchess as a "much-loved member of the family" and have requested privacy during this time of grief.
Born Katharine Worsley on February 22nd, 1933, she married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II, in 1961. The couple had three children: George, Helen, and Nicholas.
The Duchess was widely recognised for her deep dedication to charitable causes and her profound love of music. In a remarkable move that captured public admiration, she later chose to step back from royal duties to pursue a passion for teaching music, working as a classroom assistant and later teaching the piano.
She is survived by her husband, their three children, and her grandchildren. The family is expected to hold a private funeral in the coming days.
