Prince Harry and Meghan Markle landed back in the UK on Wednesday and are reportedly preparing to move to the Cotswolds, but locals have already given several reasons why they do not want the Sussexes as neighbours.
Daily Express reporter Adam Toms travelled to the picturesque region as news of the couple's arrival broke and found that residents and tourists had concerns about the prospect of the Sussexes settling among them.
Return to the UK announced
Earlier this month, it was announced in a surprising statement that Harry and Meghan would return to the UK after several years in California, where they moved following their decision to step down as working members of the Royal Family.
The couple are expected to live as private citizens, with the Cotswolds rumoured to be their chosen home. But the prospect has sparked mixed reactions.
"We don't like them"
For some locals, the problem is simply that they do not like Harry and Meghan. Pensioner Zana Aires said the couple were a "disgrace" and "should be banned" from living in the region.
Others also questioned the Sussexes' repeated calls for privacy, arguing that they were acting in a "two-faced" manner and "want the publicity".
American tourist Jon McCormack, who was visiting the Cotswolds from Florida with girlfriend Leslie Worner, said Meghan had not been a good fit for the Royal Family in the first place.
"They will bring more royal drama"
Others fear Harry and Meghan's presence in Britain could reignite tensions within the Royal Family. Ms Aires said she was concerned the couple would "stir up" royal drama simply by returning to the UK.
Other residents said the Sussexes should "make their mind up" about where they wanted to live. One criticism was that Harry had "burned his bridges" after firing artillery at his family from across the Atlantic.
"They could bring even more tourists"
Perhaps the biggest practical concern is overtourism. The Cotswolds are already one of Britain's largest tourist hotspots, with their stunning cottages attracting huge numbers of visitors every year.
Residents have long complained that tourism is putting pressure on local communities, and fear the arrival of one of the world's most famous couples could bring even more people.
An older couple told Adam that the Cotswolds already had too many visitors and worried that Harry and Meghan's arrival would attract even more. A few residents even suggested the impact could be "another Clarkson's Farm" - a reference to the enormous visitor interest generated by Jeremy Clarkson's Oxfordshire farm.
Others were more relaxed, pointing out that the Cotswolds is already home to a string of famous faces and that Harry and Meghan would simply be another celebrity couple here.
