The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been criticised by readers of the Daily Express following their return to the UK. A poll launched by the newspaper asked readers whether they were pleased that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are coming back to the country.
Poll shows overwhelming disapproval
The poll ran from 1pm on Wednesday, August 26, until 6am on Thursday, August 27, and was completed by 8,420 readers. Over 94% of respondents (7,931 people) said they were not pleased about the couple's return. Under 5% (389 people) said they were pleased, while 1% (100 people) were not sure.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the UK on Wednesday to set up home in the country. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, flew in privately from California.
New life in the Cotswolds
It has been reported that they flew into Birmingham airport earlier today. The family of four is believed to have brought many of their belongings with them for their new home. The location of their private, non-royal residence has not been and will not be revealed for security reasons.
The Sussexes' return will be welcomed by the Spencer family, with whom Harry maintains a close relationship. King Charles is also thought to be happy about their return, which will give him more opportunities to see his grandchildren. Harry and Meghan will be making their home in a non-royal residence in the Cotswolds and have already enrolled Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in school. There will be no change to the couple's role and status as non-working members of the Royal Family.
Future plans
When the Sussexes move back to the UK, it is believed that Meghan will resume acting, having last appeared on legal drama Suits in 2018. Prince Harry will be focusing on charity work and UK patronages he has retained while living in California, including WellChild and Invictus.
The family is expected to return to the US regularly, as well as use the holiday home they have bought near Melides in Portugal, close to a property bought by Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.
