Bored Andrew's Horse Riding Joy Short-Lived in Exile

Disgraced Duke Andrew, stripped of titles and exiled in Norfolk, briefly enjoyed horse riding on loan from King Charles, but faces continued isolation and family rifts.

Brief Respite on Horseback

Andrew, 66, was spotted riding across the Sandringham estate near his Norfolk home Marsh Farm for about an hour, dressed in a blue shirt. This marked his first public horse riding since a six-month ban from riding in public. The horses, dispatched from Windsor by King Charles, are only on short loan, offering temporary relief.

A source told the Sun: "He's bored rigid so even getting his horse for a few days is better than sitting around doing nothing. He was regularly riding when he lived in Windsor because it gave him a chance to get outside."

Life in Exile

Andrew was reportedly banned from riding around the Windsor estate by royal aides after photos of him trotting amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal angered King Charles. Now living in the shadows in Norfolk, he has only been pictured a handful of times, spending much of his time lounging and watching television.

Royal author Andrew Lownie said Andrew has "lost any sort of purpose in life," fascinated by flight simulator games and playing Call of Duty. His diary is bare, though he attended the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials in June, watching Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, compete from a secluded area.

Balmoral Uncertainty

Andrew may join the royal family at Balmoral in August, as he has in past years. Majesty editor Ingrid Seward noted he spent time there last summer, staying in a lodge while King Charles kept his distance. Whether he is welcome this year remains unclear.

Andrew is keen for his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, to maintain royal ties. They appeared at Peter Phillips's wedding, reportedly urged by Andrew via email to "hold their heads high." However, King Charles and Queen Camilla avoided them at the event, leaving quickly by helicopter.

Continued Fallout

Andrew was excluded from the Order of the Garter ceremony in June, a stark reminder of his losses. Despite this, he insists on being called by his "correct titles" at home, reportedly saying he will do so until they "send a vampire to suck out every drop of royal blood from my veins."

His relationship with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 66, is strained. She has not been seen publicly for months, reportedly on a "secret sofa-surfing world tour" using burner phones, reliant on wealthy friends. She had hoped to move into Adelaide Cottage but ended up with nothing.
