David Beckham captivated spectators in the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Monday, bringing his mother Sandra as his plus one. The Inter Miami co-owner, who divides his time between the UK and the USA, secured a front-row seat in the Royal Box to witness Jannik Sinner begin his title defence against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic.
Beckham's Wimbledon Tradition
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid icon, 50, has made attending the All England Club something of a tradition. In 2025, fashion influencer and journalist Joanne Hegarty found herself seated near the England legend in the Royal Box. Hegarty, a columnist for The Chic List, disclosed via HELLO: "Everyone there was looked after very well by the committee. And for me, it was exciting to watch the opening tournament game with celebrities like David Beckham." She then described Beckham with two words: "He was very chatty and friendly and brought his mum as a plus one."
Dress Code and Interactions
The Royal Box operates under its own stringent dress code that guests must observe. Gentlemen are required to wear a suit or jacket with tie, while ladies are requested to avoid hats that might block the view of those seated behind, according to the Daily Star. Hegarty disclosed she even drew inspiration from the Beckhams for her ensemble. "I wanted to wear something smart and dressy," she explained. "Something in crisp white was a forefront Wimbledon option. I wore a skirt by Toteme and ironically, my top is Victoria Beckham, which I passed onto David when I spoke to him!" This year, Beckham cut a dapper figure in a brown suit as he arrived with his mother, Sandra.
Photos with Fellow Celebrities
The former midfielder drew significant attention and remained faithful to his friendly nature, stopping to take numerous photographs with fellow attendees, including former Great British Bake Off favourite Dame Mary Berry. Beckham also arranged a picture with his mum, before requesting a group shot featuring Berry and Deborah Jevans, chair of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
World Cup Conflict
Those paying close attention may have spotted that just days earlier, Beckham was present as England defeated Panama at the World Cup in New Jersey/New York. The former Three Lions captain has been a consistent fixture at his nation's matches throughout the tournament. But it remains uncertain whether Beckham will fly back across the Atlantic for England's vital Round of 32 encounter against DR Congo on Wednesday in Atlanta, Georgia. Should he opt to visit SW19 that day, it could pose a minor complication. Wimbledon officials have indicated they will "discourage" VIPs in the royal box from monitoring the World Cup, with England's second-round fixture against DR Congo also not being broadcast on the venue's screens.
Sally Bolton OBE, Chief Executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, said: "We're not going to be showing the football on any of the big screens around the grounds, but clearly, if people have got their phones, then we're not going to prevent people from watching the football." When pressed on whether measures would be put in place to stop VIPs in the royal box from using their mobile devices, Bolton responded: "We do discourage people in the royal box from using their phones anyway."
