Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are facing renewed questions over their royal titles as pressure grows for them to consider giving them up voluntarily.
The sisters have retained their titles of princess despite the continuing fallout surrounding their father, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. Neither Beatrice nor Eugenie has been implicated in wrongdoing connected to Andrew's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, and both have continued to pursue private careers rather than becoming full-time working royals.
Pressure for voluntary surrender
However, their position has become increasingly debated as King Charles seeks to maintain a smaller monarchy focused on the direct line of succession and a limited number of senior royals.
Some royal fans have called on the sisters to voluntarily surrender their titles as an act of loyalty to the King and to prevent further controversy surrounding the family.
Such a move would be highly unusual, however, and there has been no indication that either Beatrice or Eugenie intends to give up her title.
Lower profile and royal duties
The sisters have largely maintained a lower profile while continuing with their own professional and charitable interests.
Their position within the wider Royal Family comes as Charles attempts to move beyond the crisis surrounding Andrew and maintain a more streamlined monarchy.
Summer invitation to Balmoral
Despite the calls for them to surrender their titles, Beatrice and Eugenie remain members of the Royal Family and are expected to join other relatives in Scotland for the summer.
The pair have reportedly been invited by the King to attend the family's retreat at Balmoral Castle.
Their attendance would put the sisters alongside senior members of the family at a time when attention remains focused on the future role of the York sisters.
