Alan Shearer has welcomed a second rugby player into his family this year after his daughter Chloe married former rugby union ace Micky Young last weekend. The Newcastle United icon had previously expressed reservations about his daughters dating professional footballers, but both Hollie and Chloe have now wed rugby players in 2026.
Two weddings in one year
Hollie Shearer, 31, married England rugby union star Joe Marchant in July, with the couple relocating back to England after Marchant left Stade Francais to sign for Sale Sharks. Chloe, 34, followed suit last weekend, marrying ex-Newcastle Falcons star Micky Young, 37, in a lavish wedding in the North Yorkshire countryside.
Chloe, a sports agent, has been romantically linked to Young since 2024, with the pair getting engaged last November after Young proposed at Wylam Brewery. Shearer posted photos from the celebration on Instagram, captioning: "Another weekend. Another daughter’s wedding!!! Stunning @chloeshearer1 congratulations Mr & Mrs Young."
Shearer's relief and family celebration
The Premier League record goalscorer had previously joked about his relief when Hollie began dating Marchant in 2022, responding on social media: "I'm just glad it's not a footballer." Shearer has three children with his wife Lainya, with the couple of 35 years parents to Hollie, Chloe and Will.
The BBC pundit was front and centre at Chloe's wedding, joined by two of his former Magpies team-mates, Steve Harper and Rob Lee. Chloe stunned in an elegant lace dress for her big day.
Newcastle's transition
Between the two weddings, Shearer's boyhood club have undergone a significant transition. Newcastle lost Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Eddie Howe and Bruno Guimaraes in a brutal summer, but have enjoyed a respectable start to the league season under new boss Matthias Jaissle. They sit ninth in the table after two wins, two draws and one defeat in their opening five games, and travel to newly-promoted Coventry City upon the return of the league campaign next month.
