The Prince and Princess of Wales have “made it clear” to King Charles that they want to balance their royal and family lives, as Prince George braces for a new chapter. George celebrates his 13th birthday today and may be the future King of the UK, but his parents have vowed to give him a sense of normality.
Royal parents' priorities
Robert Jobson, author of Catherine: The Princess of Wales, told Hello! Magazine: “William and Catherine have made it clear to the King that they are committed to balancing royal duties with family life and it will be the same this year.” The author said the Waleses’ focus is on helping George develop into a good person, which will help him become a good king. Mr Jobson explained: “Their aim is for George — as well as Charlotte and Louis — to grow into well-adjusted adults, ready for the role when the time comes.”
New chapter at Eton
This year, as George enters his teenage years, he will face another major change. He will enrol at Eton College this coming academic year, the school that educated both his father and his uncle, Prince Harry. Founded in 1440 by Henry VI, Eton is one of Britain’s oldest and most exclusive public schools and has educated 20 prime ministers and generations of royalty.
The young prince is currently studying at Lambrook School, a private prep school in Berkshire, where he boards alongside his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Notable Old Etonians include David Cameron, Boris Johnson, and actors Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie.
Academic excellence
The boarding school, with annual fees exceeding £63,000, is renowned for academic excellence, with dozens of pupils securing places at Oxford and Cambridge each year. Last year, almost all of Eton’s pupils scored grades 7-9 in their GCSEs, while more than three-quarters of the college’s A-Level cohort secured an A or A*.
