Joanne McNally is one of 21 contestants taking part in series two of The Celebrity Traitors on the BBC, appearing alongside fellow comedians James Acaster, Joe Lycett, Miranda Hart, Rob Beckett, and Romesh Ranganathan.
The 43-year-old Irish comic has cautioned audiences that despite her close acquaintance with many of her comedy colleagues, they are all "more than willing to throw each other under the bus" and will "absolutely kill each other off for the craic".
A rare nose condition
Joanne lacks cartilage in her nose, enabling her to flatten her nose entirely against her face before reshaping it back to normal. She demonstrated this unusual ability during series 17, episode 8 of Channel 4's Taskmaster UK by presenting a rubber cast of her nose and allowing host Greg Davies to compress her actual nose.
Viewers watching the episode subsequently flocked to Reddit to express their reactions to Joanne's condition. One viewer wrote: "This makes me so uncomfortable, especially in a still it looks like she hasn't got a nose at all! Every time I see it I instinctively press on my own nose." Another commented: "This made me jump up in disgust, but I can't stop looking at it."
Joanne has referenced her cartilage-free nose during interviews, observing that fellow Irish comedian PJ Gallagher possesses the same uncommon characteristic.
Career and personal life
Joanne grew up with her adoptive family in Killiney, County Dublin and served as co-presenter of Republic of Telly for RTÉ and has featured on The Late Late Show, The Afternoon Show, Ireland AM, Two Tube, and The Commute for RTÉ. Alongside appearances on RTÉ 2fm, McNally co-presents a podcast entitled My Therapist Ghosted Me with Vogue Williams.
The comic is understood to be single following her separation from former boyfriend Alan Byrne after a two-year relationship. Speaking to Vogue on their podcast, she confirmed: "So me and Alan have parted ways" before discussing her work trip to Vegas with her newly-single agent Christina.
She continued: "It was a bit of a blowout, we needed it. I wasn't really ar**d [meeting men], but what I will say is I knew she [Christina] was a big hit with men, she does have film star vibes. But the men were chatting her up and there was a stream of them. I was like 'Dude, I'm sorry I'm here but where am I supposed to go? I'm sorry my face repulses you'."
Joanne first revealed her former partner to listeners of her popular podcast with Vogue back in May 2022, giving him the amusing pseudonym "Prada Peter". At the time, Joanne disclosed they had connected on Raya and mentioned neither would be removing the exclusive celebrity dating app, given its difficulty to access and the fact they'd met through the platform.
The Celebrity Traitors returns Wednesday, October 1 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
