Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) faces his sentencing in Emmerdale after being found guilty of causing the deaths of Jimmy and Dawn by dangerous driving. The character, who had been about to get engaged to boyfriend Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches), saw his life unravel after answering a phone call while driving.
The call distracted him, forcing Jimmy off the road and leaving six children without a parent after Jimmy (Nick Miles) and Dawn (Olivia Bromley) died. Vinny did not stop to check on Jimmy and, with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) on the other end of the call, decided to keep the incident secret, making the eventual fallout worse.
Family support on his last night of freedom
Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) have been seeking justice, and Lewis has ended the relationship. In the days before the verdict, Vinny had a frank conversation with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), who warned him the coming weeks would be the worst of his life. Despite Aaron's reassurances, the outlook remains bleak.
Vinny leaves flowers on Jimmy's grave, and Mandy (Lisa Riley) invites him home for a final meal before court. He arrives to find the Dingles united in support, a bittersweet moment as he faces the prospect of prison. Mandy and Paddy (Dominic Brunt) try to reassure him he will be home soon, but the charges—death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and assist, and covering up the crime—make a quick return unlikely.
Sentencing looms
Vinny says his goodbyes, with Aaron urging him to keep his head down. He heads to court terrified, facing an outcome that will shock his family. The length of his sentence remains to be seen.
