Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are set to appear on Celebrity Traitors, and body language expert Inbaal Honigman has analysed their friendship to predict what hurdles they could face in the castle. The comedy duo are already best pals, but the show could test their trust.
Body language clues
Honigman explained: “Romesh tends to use calm, serene body language. His moves are generally peaceful and elegant. His gentle demeanour and inner calm corresponds with his outer mannerisms.”
“Rob is a very different character, with exaggerated moves and expressions that represent a more chaotic personality thanks to his broad, noticeable gestures.”
Spotting a Traitor
“Romesh would be quite easy to spot as a Traitor. His long moves would shorten, and his deep voice could become raspy from the stress of keeping up an act. Rob would be able to call Romesh out in a nanosecond.”
“If Rob had to pretend, he'd be much harder to identify. His over-the-top mannerisms wouldn't be any wilder if he were tense.”
“As Romesh knows him quite well, he may be able to catch Rob being pensive, worried or contemplative, if Rob needed to lie and deceive, but it wouldn't be easy.”
Friendship under pressure
“Romesh displays more of a 'lone wolf' body language, suggesting that Romesh will not hesitate to nominate Rob. However, in many of their joint photos Rob seems to be tilting his head empathically so he will struggle to throw Romesh under the bus.”
Honigman also analysed hours of Alan Carr’s gameplay to figure out how the comedian got away with playing a Traitor in plain sight.
She said: “Alan got away with everything for the simple reason that everything he does is unique. When we look to compare a calm person with a stressed one, we compare like for like.”
“What would an everyday, average Joe walk like and talk like when they keep a big secret? Alan's individualism and unparalleled quirks saved him.”
“He can't be compared to anyone, there's no yardstick.”
“His anxious movements and gestures were ignored by the Faithfuls, who just assumed that this is just the way he acts on the regular.”
“A great tip for the aspiring Traitor is to bring a quirk or an unusual trait into the castle that makes them as lovable as Alan was, and too complicated for the contestants to decipher.”
