Fans of The Chase are growing frustrated as ITV continues to air repeat episodes, despite a new series reportedly being ready to broadcast. The long-running quiz show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, has been a staple of the 5pm slot since 2009, but viewers have noticed a recent pattern of repeats replacing fresh content.
Loyal Following Meets Scheduling Frustration
After 17 years on air, The Chase has maintained a devoted audience, with fans taking to X before 5pm to share their excitement using #TheChase. However, that enthusiasm has recently turned to frustration as viewers tune in expecting a brand-new episode, only to realise within minutes that they have already seen it.
While repeat episodes are not a new issue, the frequency has become increasingly noticeable. Fans are particularly annoyed because there are reportedly plenty of new episodes waiting to be shown.
New Episodes Delayed Despite Filming
Filming for the 19th series concluded earlier this year, with new episodes finally beginning to air in September 2026. Yet after just two weeks of new episodes, viewers were once again faced with repeats.
There are reportedly well over 100 episodes filmed for season 19, which could potentially take the show into 2027. Fans are questioning why they are being made to sit through episodes they have already seen when there is apparently fresh content available.
Possible Reasons and Potential Solutions
ITV has been dealing with budget issues, which may play a role in the scheduling. There may also be reasons behind the scheduling that viewers are not aware of. However, from a fan's perspective, it is about keeping people entertained.
One suggestion is to look at the format itself. There are currently six Chasers, meaning the workload is spread between them. However, Bradley Walsh is the one constant, and presenting hundreds of episodes is a huge commitment.
Rotating guest presenters occasionally could help lighten the load while also giving the show something different. As much as fans might hate to admit it, Walsh will not be able to present the show forever, so it could be a good opportunity for ITV bosses to bring in occasional guest hosts and see how viewers respond.
Alternatively, ITV could invest in another quiz show to fill the gaps when The Chase runs out of new episodes. Whatever they replace it with would inevitably be compared to The Chase the minute it aired, but surely that is better than repeat after repeat?
Fans have stuck with The Chase for years, meaning they deserve fresh and up to date content from an established broadcaster like ITV, and this is not cutting it.
