Strictly Come Dancing star Lacey Turner left her professional dance partner Vito Coppola baffled during a rehearsal break after she added crisps to her sandwich. The pair are preparing their second routine ahead of the show's first elimination, following their opening live performance on Saturday (September 26).
Lunch break confusion
Documenting the moment on his Instagram Story, Vito recorded Lacey tipping a packet of crisps onto her plate. "Well, we've got our lunch break, and is this something I cannot...", he remarked, as Lacey declared, "I'm so happy right now."
"The crisps are with the sandwich," the Italian dancer observed, before Lacey explained, "You need to put them in." Vito then asked, "No, you put the crisps in the sandwich?" Lacey confirmed, "Yes and then you get a crunch."
Vito's reaction
Sounding perplexed, Vito questioned, "Why is that? I don't think you're allowed to do that. Is this an English thing?" Glancing at his own sandwich, he added, "I will stick with this, it doesn't exist, a crisp sandwich," prompting Lacey to laugh, "You haven't lived."
The EastEnders actress and Vito delivered an impressive cha-cha-cha to Whitney Houston's track 'How Will I Know?', securing the series' first standing ovation and a combined score of 27 points from the judges.
Leaderboard standings
As none of the 15 celebrities faced elimination on Saturday, their scores will carry forward to next week's leaderboard. Lacey and Vito currently sit in third place with a score of 27.
Leading the leaderboard are YouTuber John Nellis and Katya Jones with 31 points, while Australian singer Delta Goodrem and dance partner Kai Widdrington occupy second place with 29 points. Gavin and Stacey stars Melanie Walters and Aljaz Skorjanec find themselves at the foot of the table with 15 points.
The series' first live programme also marked the debut appearances of new presenters Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe. Although the trio had appeared a week prior at the pre-recorded launch show, Saturday marked the first time they presented live in front of millions of viewers at home. Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday at 6:15pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
