Strictly's It Takes Two overtakes main show in shock twist

Strictly Come Dancing's sister show, It Takes Two, has unexpectedly overtaken the main competition in popularity, a development that has never happened before, according to a new opinion piece.

The spin-off, now hosted by Ellie Taylor, has drawn praise from viewers, while the main show continues to face backlash over comedian Josh Widdicombe's presenting style. Two weeks into the series, complaints about Widdicombe have not subsided, with one viewer branding him a "spare part" alongside co-hosts Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe.

Ellie Taylor's Takeover Praised

Taylor, who took the reins four years after appearing on the show as a contestant, has been described as a "complete natural" in her new role. Her genuine excitement when speaking with professionals, judges, and dancers has been noted, with one segment that saw Lauren Oakley, Jowita Przystał, and Juillan Caillon perform a move together drawing particular praise.

The presenter's handling of the show has been branded "magificent" (sic), and her abrupt breaking-news segment reportedly drew viewers in, making them interested in what the couples had been doing over the previous 24 hours.

Josh Widdicombe's Blunders

In contrast, Widdicombe has come under fire for missing several cues during the live show. On one occasion, the comedian stood in complete silence on stage, seemingly unaware it was his turn to speak, and the realisation appeared to dawn on him that he had made another mistake. This was described as a repeated blunder for the comedian.

Some viewers have suggested Widdicombe should be moved to the 'Clauditorium', where his background as a comedy panel host might be better suited.

Potential Viewership Shift

With viewers staying vocal in their backlash against Strictly while simultaneously praising Ellie, it would not be a surprise if bosses see a sharp increase in viewership for It Takes Two. The execs could be forced to rethink their strategy, and if they do not step in, there could be disastrous viewership results for series 24.
