Strictly Come Dancing host Josh Widdicombe has broken his silence after fans criticised the show's new three-presenter lineup. The comedian, part of the new hosting team alongside Johannes Radebe and Emma Willis, took to Instagram Stories to share a message from pro dancer Lauren Oakley.
Widdicombe re-shared a post originally published by Oakley, which read: "We couldn't be in safer hands than with these beautiful people." The post continued: "Strictly is about family, uplifting others, and creating a safe space for celebrity contestants to be vulnerable and do something so outside of their comfort zone. This trio have been so warm and welcoming, and they felt like family from the minute they stepped into the studio, and we love having them with us."

Oakley's message also praised the three hosts, saying: "Professional, funny, kind and fantastic at what they do. I couldn't feel more lucky to be sharing the screen and our Saturday nights with them." The post included a picture of Widdicombe with Radebe and Willis, accompanied by three red heart emojis.
The trio have taken over from Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly for the 2026 series, but some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with their dynamic on the show.
Viewer reactions split
Since the series began on Saturday 3 October, many viewers have taken to social media to complain about the hosting style. One said: "Okay, I don’t want to be a hater, but three hosts is just not working. Not at all," while another wrote: "I normally enjoy Strictly, but not this year. The presenters just don’t gel."
Some suggested alternative arrangements, with one person commenting: "Josh Widdicombe could have easily taken over the Claudia Winkleman role," and another adding: "Emma is brilliant. Josh should be upstairs." However, others have defended the new presenters as they settle into their roles. One irritated viewer said: "But surely it’s about the dancing? That’s great, give these presenters a chance for heaven's sake."
