Sienna Miller has said that getting older is a “privilege” given the amount of “tragedy” in the world. The 44-year-old British actress, known for Layer Cake and Factory Girl, told the Radio Times: “My life doesn’t feel particularly old at the moment,” adding, “but I enjoy getting older”.
Miller on ageing and new chapters
Miller described ageing as “a relief in not being as attached to people’s opinions”, according to the Express. She said: “I don’t see it in terms of ageing. It’s life lived, challenges overcome and new chapters.”
Her latest chapter is the eight-part legal drama War, launching on Sky Atlantic on October 2. The series follows the acrimonious divorce between tech mogul billionaire Morgan Henderson (Dominic West) and his film star wife Carla Duval (Miller). What begins as an amicable split turns nasty once two high-powered law firms become involved in the biggest celebrity divorce in history.
Reunion with Dominic West
War reunites Miller with West, 56, two decades after they worked together on a production of As You Like It with the late Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory. That production was Miller’s first play at 21 and marked their first collaboration.
Miller said the production was an “incredibly bonding experience” and that a “fondness” between them helped depict the foundation of Morgan and Carla’s marriage. West agreed the play had been a great bonding experience after months working together in the West End. He said: “It’s dead easy to be in love with Sienna; you don’t really have to act any of that.”
Instead, The Wire star said it was a “harder task” to create the animosity between their estranged characters. Across the eight episodes, audiences will see the push and pull between the two sides as their legal teams battle for the best outcome for their clients.
Season two already in the works
Miller said she was drawn to War by creator George Kay, whose “propulsive storytelling” she admires. She explained: “You only read the first couple of episodes when signing on to something like this, so it was all a mystery how it ended and unravelled, but I really wanted to be among that company of actors.”
War has already been commissioned for a second series, with law firms Taylor & Byrne and Cathcarts & Sons set to fight a new case. The new season will feature an all-star cast including David Harewood, Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald, Claire Skinner, Omari Douglas, Kadiff Kirwan, Douglas Booth and Charles Edwards.
