Sharon Rooney says she's 'not cut out' to be a Traitor in Celebrity Traitors

Scots actor Sharon Rooney has revealed she wants to be a Faithful in the new series of Celebrity Traitors, admitting she is a terrible liar and lacks a good poker face.

The 37-year-old, known for starring in My Mad Fat Diary and Two Doors Down, is one of 21 celebrities travelling to the Scottish Highlands to compete in the game of deception for a chance to win up to £100,000 for their chosen charity. The second series of the show returns to screens this week, with fans counting down the days until October 1.

'I don't have a good poker face'

Sharing that competing on The Celebrity Traitors feels like a "wild dream", Sharon confessed that, despite being an actor, she is actually a terrible liar. Ahead of filming the series, she said: "I don’t think I’m cut out to be a Traitor really. The main reason being I don't have a good poker face. And I think that is kind of quite high up in the job description."

While scheming in the tower in the Traitors' cloaks may not be an issue for Sharon, the possibility of crumbling in front of her fellow cast mates remains an issue. However, she also doesn't trust herself to be a valuable Faithful. "Because the cloak's good for hiding, but you can't wear it all the time because then they can tell that you're a Traitor," Sharon added. "I think I would be quite rubbish at that. I don't know if I'd be a good Faithful either. We’ll have to see."

Treating it as an acting role

According to Sharon, the only way she could take on being a Traitor is by thinking of it as a job, but the challenge would put her on edge. "I can't tell a lie. I'm really bad at lying. If I’m picked as a Traitor, I'd have to treat it as an acting role but be a version of me," she confessed. "I wouldn't be able to just relax and fully be myself because I can't lie. Even when I was little, if I'd broken something I’d immediately confess. My mum said it was a nightmare. I’d tell her 'I cut off all that doll's hair because I wanted to see what it looked like,' and she'd be like, 'Oh well, right. You won’t be getting another doll'."

However, Sharon claimed that she isn't easily swayed and believes this will help her stand by her own theories - even if it makes her look guilty. She explained: "My strategy for the game is like my strategy in life, and I think it would just be - keep yourself right. That would mean I'm not going to be swayed by any peer pressure. I'm not going to just vote for someone because everyone's doing it. If I don't think it's right, I'm not going to do it."

Quiet nature and fellow contestants

While Sharon is determined to stay true to herself, she is worried that her quiet nature may be used against her. Confessing that she becomes subdued in large groups, Sharon hopes she will be drawn to other contestants who will spare her life.

Joining Sharon in the castle are stars such as Michael Sheen, James Blunt, Bella Ramsey, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Joe Lycett. The conniving Traitors will be chosen on the first episode of The Celebrity Traitors on Thursday, October 1, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
